Post Pregnancy Update

I thought it would be fun to write a post pregnancy update similar to my pregnancy update format...here you go!

How Far Along? After carrying him for about 42 weeks, Robert Oscar finally made his appearance on November 12.  As of today, he’s 11 days old.

Size of Baby?  He was 7 lbs, 8 oz when he was born, and 7 lbs, 1 oz 3 days later at his first doctor’s appointment.  He was 20.5 inches long…per the doc he’s approximately 65% in height and 35% in weight (those are rough estimates, we didn’t write down percentiles and we’re running on parental sleep deprived brains right now)…so he’s tall and skinny, just like his parents (HA!).

Maternity Clothes?  I CAN FIT INTO MY OLD T-SHIRTS!!  YAAAAY!  Granted, I still am wearing some big shirts (the boobs are huge) and one pair of my maternity jeans (the dark pair are too big and kind of sag), and my pre-pregnancy jeans obviously don’t exactly button just yet, but we are working towards that goal.  The Belly Band and rubber bands are coming in handy once again to help keep my pants on!  J

Weight Gain (LOSS!)?   I gained just over 20 lbs with him…and as of this morning I had lost about 17 lbs.  Unfortunately I know that I lost muscle too, so while my weight is back down, my belly is still on the larger side and my boobs are gargantuan.  It will take a while to get back to pre-preggo shape, but I’m gonna do it!

Gender?  Boy!  Robert Oscar (Thank goodness this was correct or else we would have been screwed with all the boy stuff we have!)

Sleep?  What is this sleep you speak of??  Actually, he’s been pretty good…we just wake up regularly at night for feedings (usually 2 or 3 a night, depending on when we go to bed and when we get up).  And I’ve been trying to take naps too…naps are easier with a sleeping baby laying on you J.

Food Cravings?  EVERYTHING!  I can have food without wanting to gag and having heartburn!!  Hooray!  I had a pint of ice cream when we got home from the hospital and it was delicious.  However, I think little Rob-O’s gut doesn’t handle it very well, because he kind of smelled like sulfur the next day.  I will probably be avoiding dairy and gluten at least for the first month or so (with an occasional treat here and there).  I feel a lot hungrier NOW than I did when I was pregnant.  Weird.

What I Miss?  NOTHING! J  I can eat without heartburn, I can bend over, I can stoop to my knees, I can curl up in a ball while sleeping, I can sleep on my back, belly, sides…I can roll over comfortably and easily!  THIS IS AWESOME!  I can’t wait to get back in the gym and start lifting weights!

Symptoms?  Sleepiness and sore boobs of a nursing new mom

Belly Button?  It’s back in (mostly)!

Best Moment of the Week?  There are too many to count!  BJ and I could just look at him all day long in amazement.  He is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to us…his expressions crack us up constantly.  Apparently he kind of looks like me when I was a baby, but I think his expressions and demeanor are more like BJ.  I can’t believe we’ve been blessed with someone so amazing.

Update!

Hello all!

I had an NST this morning (nonstress test) and it went great!  The baby is super "reactive" meaning that he was moving around a lot and his heart rate would increase with his movement.  Normally these tests take about 20 minutes and they want to see at least 2 spikes in heart rate correlating with baby movement...I easily had that in probably the first 5 minutes (I told you he's a mover and a shaker!).  The PA who was monitoring the test came back in the room after the first 10 minutes and was like, "Whoa you're done!"  So, no surprise, Rob-O aced his first test (I mean, duh...he's the offspring of me and Beej...this will be the first of many aced tests).

The PA went and showed the schematic (the graph looking paper with squiggly lines on it that came from the machine to which I was hooked up) to the doctor, who then decided to come in and do a quick exam.  The schematic showed the baby's heart rate patterns and also uterine pressure (contractions).  So apparently I was having a few contraction like pressures even though I couldn't really feel them.  The doc checked me out and I was 1 cm dilated!!  YAAAAAY!  (I realize this is NOT a lot at all, but it's better than nothing and since I haven't shown progress in the last 3 or 4 weeks, this feels like a victory!)  Since I was closed up tight during my appointment on Monday the doctor was encouraged by the fact that I had made SOME sort of progress over the last few days, and therefore feels more confident that if we have to induce next week that it has a better chance of being successful.  HOPEFULLY we don't have to worry about that and I'll just go into labor naturally sometime between now and Monday...cross your fingers everyone!!

41 Week Update

Yes...41 weeks.  Today (November 5th) is either 41 weeks and 2 days or 40 weeks and 5 days, depending on which "due date" you go with (I mean, seriously, they're all guesses, but I had two sonograms during the first trimester that gave me slightly differing dates).  Either way, I'm pretty sure this kiddo is done cooking and is just freeloading at this point.  I am a wee bit discouraged this afternoon as I had my weekly doctor's appointment and I still haven't made any progress.  My Bishop Score is still 0 and the doctor said if we absolutely had to deliver the baby like, RIGHT NOW, we'd TRY to induce but the likelihood of induction working was very low and we'd most likely result in a c-section.  Luckily, I'm healthy, the baby's healthy, and there is no pressing NEED to have the kiddo right now, other than my impatience and desire to dress him up in little baby clothes and hats. :)  I have an NST on Thursday, and if everything is well with that (which I'm guessing it will be) then we'll just wait til my next appointment NEXT Monday and at that point I think they'll try to induce b/c I'll either be 42 weeks and 2 days or 41 weeks and 5 days.

My face says, "Yes, I'm still pregnant...yes, I'm kind of ready to be done..."

The Nursery

For your viewing pleasure, some pictures of the nursery!  Now we just need a baby to occupy the space...

Here's the little one's crib.  The cord you see is for the video monitor that's mounted on the wall above the bed.  We have some safari themed bedding in there right now (don't worry, I'll remove all suffocation risks when he's in there).  We also have a Norman Rockwell picture hanging over his bed, because who doesn't love "A Boy and His Dog"??  The owl clock will probably go on the wall there between the window and the crib.

More pictures of the crib...cute mobile, a fun kangaroo and Ryan the Lion, as well as our froggy blanket that is SUPER soft and cuddly.

Here's the changing table/dresser.  I like that this piece can grow with him...and I just love dark wood!

We will be adding a picture of our little family in the picture frame once he joins us...until then it's sitting there with a Scentsy monkey and the lamp (with a tweedy, menswear inspired lamp shade, which will be useful even into his teen years!)

This is the rocker we're going to be using.  It was my Papa's (he's the Oscar that Robert Oscar is named after)...it's leather and soft and a recliner as well.  It works well with the whole feel of the room, and I love that I can rock little O in big O's chair.  The blanket on the back of the chair was a shower gift and it is SUPER comfy and soft and I just might have to steal it from the kiddo.
I hung the Hootie clock in his room...I think it's a nice touch.

I painted these little guys to put in his room as well...there's the R with the monkey tail, the owl, and then a brown background with BJ's and my handprint on it.  When Rosco is born we'll add his little hand print to the center!

Cute little stool my sweet friend Jayne bought for him...if he's a shorty like his momma he'll need it to reach things! :)

40 Week Update

It is officially my due date...and I'm still way pregnant!  It's funny to hear people telling me, "Oh you'll have him soon, you've definitely dropped!" then the next person I see will tell me, "It might still be a while, it doesn't look like you've dropped yet!"  It's also funny to watch strangers' faces when they ask me, "Oh, when are you due?" and I say, "Today" (or "Saturday" or "Yesterday" as I'm sure I'll do tomorrow)...their eyes get really wide like I'm going to have the kid right then and there.  Basically, God and Rob-O are the only ones who know when he'll come, so I'm just not stressing about it.  I'll know when it's time to go to the hospital because a) my water will have broken or b) contractions will be strong enough and regular enough for me to know that they're actual contractions (still not sure if I've had any yet) and we will have timed them and stuff.  Until then I'm just going to continue doing what I do (not really sure what that is just yet) and resting when I get tired.

I have a doctor's appointment on Monday, and we may discuss scheduling an induction, but I think I'll still try to give him at least another week or two to come out on his own...heck I was almost a month late (Sorry Mom!) and my bros were both at a week or two late.  I'm not completely miserable or anything (even if I do whine a little now and then) and if the baby's still healthy in there, why try to take him out before he's ready?

Pardon the crazy hair, it was still drying.  This sweater is a non-maternity sweater that was always just REALLY long on me (I think NY & Co?) so now that my belly is huge, it actually hits me at a normal spot, yay!

Alright, Rob-O, lets get this show on the road!  Please come join us soon! :)

39 Week Update

You guessed it...still pregnant!  Luckily Rob-O allowed me to go to Homecoming this past weekend (so much fun!), but now he is officially allowed to come out whenever he wants (maybe sooner rather than later?).  I think we're about as "ready" as we're going to get, so now I'm just anxious to meet him!  I still have heartburn, my belly button is still out (like, way out) and I'm holding steady at the same weight I've been for the past month and a half.  Nothing much has changed since last week! :)

The house has come together quite nicely (special thanks to my mom for her love of cleaning and her willingness to come over and mop/vacuum/clean the kitchen)...we really just need to paint a few more walls (probably won't get done before the baby comes) and go through some boxes that we have in closets (hopefully will get done this week).  The weather here in Tulsa has been actually pretty warm this past week, so I've been wearing my maternity shorts and t-shirts, which is good since the majority of my maternity clothes ARE warm weather items.  Hopefully it does cool off soon though and become "fall" again because it's my favorite season. :)

I went to the doctor this afternoon and he said that I'm still not progressing, but the baby's fine (good heartbeat, making those breathing motions, plenty of fluid around him and he's still moving around like crazy) so I think we're just going to keep waiting it out!  No discussion of induction yet (yay), but BJ and I are wondering if maybe we'll have the baby next Monday on the full moon (it seems that lots of babies are born during a full moon).  If he comes on a full moon, I will call him Wolfie.  :)

Here's the latest picture...and yes I am huge, but I guess that can be expected when you are in your 40th week of pregnancy...
